14-16th August sees the return of the Summer Sundae Festival at De Montford Hall and Gardens in Leicester.

The first event was held in 2001 and since then it has progressed from a modest one-day affair, over two stages, to a renowned weekend of music jam packed with great artists.

2005 featured such artists as Lemon Jelly, KT Tunstall, The Magic Numbers and Idlewild. Whilst 2006 saw even more growth in popularity, and acts included Belle and Sebastian, Elbow, Jamie T and Larrikin Love.

Throughout the 8 years of the Summer Sundae, audience reactions have remained positive; despite the constant development of the festival, the weekend event maintains a level of family friendliness, friendly atmosphere and artistic diversity.

The lineup for this years event is the strongest yet. Not only are you set to see the likes of The Streets, Idlewild and Mystery Jets, but you also have the chance to check out new talent

like Dan Black and Chipmunk. Also performing will be Kanye West’s collaborator Mr Hudson, New Beautiful South, The Zutons and beatboxing king Beardyman plus many more.

There will also be a wide selection of comedians to sample to keep you entertained throughout the weekend and a new chilled out area called The Garden, where you can go to relax in between sets.

As are many other festivals in the UK, the powers that be at Summer Sundae are keen to keep the event ‘green’. In 2007 The Greener Festival Award, a kite mark for festivals meeting green targets, was introduced.

Summer Sundae is now recognised as one of the must visit events on the festival calendar and if you fancy a chilled out weekend watching some of the hottest new bands in August, then Leicester is the place to be. Well worth checking out.
