“These girls fall like dominos” What exactly do The Big Pink mean in this line? If they are trying to imply that girls will fall at their feet as if they were gods then I have some good news for them. Girls will lap their music up with pleasure, as will guys as a matter of fact. However, this is as a result of the current scene, The Big Pink are nothing special, in fact far from it.

Many will claim that their sound is “different” and “unique”, and while there is a case for these arguments, they are hardly the radical breath of fresh air that an increasingly bland and lifeless music scene needs. A song like ‘Dominos’ in my opinion will not last long, in fact it’s easily forgettable (something I am pleased with), but during its lifetime many Indie fans and “Scene kids” will love it. The lyrics, as I have already pointed out, are clichéd for popular music and the singing is just annoying. It’s so incredibly repetitive that it would even drive Norman Bates to insanity. The song would instantly improve as an instrumental, although the music isn’t great either. However, Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell (the two guys in the band) won’t mind what the minority thinks though as they seem to be getting increasing attention from a variety of
sources (The Guardian and The BBC included) which will allow them to gain more publicity and fans. With a record label backing the boys they are on their way to success like so many bands of similar style and genre (which there are far too many of at the moment).
‘Dominos’ as a track does nothing. The Big Pink as a band, well I’ll happily stay away from them if this is how they shall carry on. When Indie becomes unfashionable, then so will these guys along with far too many bands of recent years. That day cannot come too soon. For the time being though, they’ll unfortunately be exactly what most people want. Who knows, they may even make Dominos a popular game again, although I highly doubt that.
