Ok, so first off I must iterate the fact that this particular run down is in no particular order, nor is it a definitive list of the best British record labels of all time (as if such a breakdown could ever be truly quantified). It is simply a list of some personal favourites within the British...MORE>>

NOISETTES - JAMIE MORRISON

Golf Buggies in trees, performing in boxing rings and cats heads. Jamie Morrison from the Noisettes shares a few stories with us as we caught up with him back stage at the Relentless Wakestock Festival. With his wild hair, magnificent beard and glorious feather-boa Jamie’s presence is felt the moment you walk into a room with him.

Noisettes - Jamie Morrison

The Noisettes are one of 2009’s most successful bands with hits such as Wild Young Hearts, Don’t Upset The Rhythm and Never Forget You. They arrived at Abersoch in North West Wales, the

location for Wakestock, just a few hours before we met. From Wakestock they will be heading up to Scotland for T in the Park and then on to Oxegen Festival.

You’ve a hectic festival schedule this year, what was the first festival you ever performed at and the craziest thing you’ve ever seen at a festival?

I think the first festival was Glastonbury and we played that year, we played 5 times. We played in a boxing ring, at Glastonbury there’s like this Las Vegas area which is just weird. It opens up about midnight and it’s where all the crazy people go when everything else is closed. They had a chapel area where people could get married, so we played in there and in a casino, we played in the middle of this boxing ring so that was my first experience and my first experience playing as well.

Craziest thing I’ve seen at a festival, err somehow the boys from The View got one of those golf buggies stuck in a tree. I don’t know how they did that but it was very impressive. That’s probably the craziest thing I’ve seen.

Your fan base is getting bigger and bigger, what’s the most random piece of fan mail you’ve ever received?

If we got any mail I don’t know how we’d get it because we’re never at home, ever. So maybe when we finish this tour in October 2010 we’ll go home and there’ll be just weird stuff like cats heads and peoples underwear. But I think there’s a healthy amount of interesting people in our audience, that’s the politically correct way to say it.

Wakestock has an awesome line-up this year from Moby, N.E.R.D to yourselves, but what would be your all time greatest line up for a festival be?

Michael Jackson, Prince, Led Zeppelin and Noisettes.

What do you consider to be your greatest achievement as a group so far?

To still be here, we have been a band for 6 years now but for 5 years just touring around. No-one gave a fuck about us at all. But we played everywhere we played all over the world. Then this record came out (Don’t Upset The Rhythm) and we suddenly became very popular and no I look back at the 5 years we had an I think how did we do that. The belief we had to keep going, so that is our greatest achievement, sticking at it as 5 years is a really long time.

Avenue61 is about promoting and reviewing up and coming artists and bands. What advice would you give them to achieve the same success your experiencing now?

You don’t give up if your in it for the right reasons. Then it will happen, when it will happen who knows. It might not happen in your lifetime, it took us 5 years, sometimes it takes 2 weeks. So don’t give up, good things will happen, I’m sure, I have the proof.

Jamie and the Noisettes played a fantastic set later that night to a packed out crowd in the XFM tent at Wakestock. They ended with a Children of the Revolution cover that brought the house down. As previously mentioned they are touring extensively over the next 12 months and if you get a chance to see them live, then we strongly advise you do so, you won’t be disappointed.
