RELENTLESS WAKESTOCK 2009 PREVIEW

Europe’s Largest Wakeboard Music Festival is how Relentless Wakestock 09 is described and judging by the previous 9 years it certainly lives up those credentials. The oft-sleepy seaside town of Abersoch is transformed into a hive of uproarious activity. And so, for one weekend a year revellers flock to the sheltered Welsh town to indulge their appetite for music, madness & a miscellany of adrenaline fuelled sports whilst regular inhabitants swap nets for noise, boats for bands & seaside serenity for sleepless summer nights.

Relentless Wakestock 2009

2009’s huge Line-Up includes the likes of Moby, N.E.R.D, Dizzee Rascal, Chicane, Clavin Harris, The Noisettes, Super Furry Animals, Red Light Company, The Pigeon Detectives, The Zutons, Tinchy Stryder, Zane Lowe, Agnes, Just Jack and Ebony Bones to name a few.

Along with heavyweight hitters’ headline slots Wakestock wanders from the majority of the festival pack by employing

the services of some regional talent, adding a distinctively Welsh flavour to the Main stage smorgasbord. Bands such as Psyche-pop outlaws Sibrydion, the undeniably groovy techno-heads Gallops! & the Welsh language, American Roots melting pot Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog instead of being resigned to smaller niche stages have all been given extremely sought after slots on the main stage.

Relentless Wakestock 2009 will be hosting the worlds greatest riders as they compete for the title of Relentless Wakestock champion. The Pwillheli Marina will be the place to catch the 4 day event and is the perfect back-drop to sit back and relax before heading over to the festival stages to get your hands in the air.

The festival takes place over 3 locations; Pwllheli Marina, Penrhos and Abersoch. Penrhos is the main festival site which overlooks the stunning Cardigan Bay and across to the Snowdonia. It may be off the beaten track but that does not discourage any of the thousands of ticket holders who descend to this little known area of Wales every year armed with booze, boards and bikini’s.

Wakestock has built up an impressive reputation which is partly due to the fantastic acts that the event has drawn over the last 9 years. Those that have graced Abersoch before include Feeder, Athlete, Mark Ronson, Biffy Clyro, The Automatic, Ferry Corsten Kosheen, and many more. With the aforementioned line-up this year promises to be the best yet.

For those that have never heard of Wakeboarding before it is very similar to being pulled along at 20+mph on a tin tray whilst performing tricks and flips on a submerged skatepark. It’s an adrenaline packed sport and with the help of Relentless Energy Drink, the events main sponsor, it won’t take much for the caffeine infused festival goers to create an electric atmosphere.

With girls in bikini’s, guys in mankini’s, wakeboarders flying and pissed people trying, if your planning to attend this years event then you won’t be disappointed. If your not then you’ll be able to catch Avenue61’s exclusive review shortly afterwards.
